Laser hair removal is performed with an 810 Diode Laser, which emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. Laser hair removal is used to reduce unwanted hair. Common treatment locations include legs, underarms, upper lip, chin, Brazilian and the bikini line. However, it's possible to treat unwanted hair in nearly any area, except the eyelid or surrounding area. The number of treatments to reach optimal results may vary from patient to patient, typically (6-8) treatments is standard and could take more if the skin typing determines a conservative setting for the laser.

Hair color and skin color influence the success of laser hair removal. The basic principle is that the pigment of the hair, but not the pigment of the skin, should absorb the light. The laser should damage only the hair follicle while avoiding damage to the skin. Therefore, a contrast between hair and skin color — dark hair and light skin — results in the best outcomes. A Fitzpatrick Skin Typing Form MUST be completed prior to any Laser hair removal treatment to properly “skin type” the patient which determines the range of settings for the treatment.

The risk of damage to skin is greater when there is little contrast between hair and skin color, therefore if the pigment of the skin is dark the laser cannot determine which pigment is hair or skin and cannot be treated. Laser hair removal is not effective for hair colors that don't absorb light well: gray, red, blond, or white, and therefore cannot be treated.

Patient Responsibilities Prior to Receiving Laser Hair Removal Treatment

The following is a list of factors that are outside the control of Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa, Inc. and are the responsibility of the patient so that treatments can be performed on the date of the Laser Hair Removal appointment and or so that the treatment can be performed safely. It is our priority that laser patients are treated with the utmost safety protocols of Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa, Inc.

• We require advise the office if I have started taking any photosensitive medications, such as antibiotics, so that my appointment can be rescheduled for (14) days after I stop taking the photosensitive medications
• We require you to shave (2-3) days prior to my scheduled appointment or that I MUST arrive for my appointment with a fine hair stubble so the treatment can be effective. If I am unable to shave the area to be treated, I MUST schedule time for shaving with my appointment and I will be charged a shaving fee of $30 per area.
• You should understand that if I shave the day of treatment and the skin is slick or smooth with no stubble, the treatment may not be effective for that session because the laser may not detect the hair
• Please understand that Laser Hair Removal treatment CANNOT BE PERFORMED ON razor burned, raw or broken skin. If the skin is slightly pink from razor irritation the laser setting will need to be lowered to a safer level for the treatment which will not be as effective in removal of hair. Therefore, it is important to have (2-3) days of growth or enough growth of hair so that it is a fine stubble.
• You cannot use self-tanner on the areas to be treated with laser hair removal as the laser cannot determine the difference between the hair color and skin color and therefore can cause the skin to absorb the energy and cause a burn.
• If you come to your laser hair removal appointment and have not adhered to the above listed contraindications for laser hair removal and cannot be treated this will result in a “No Treatment” fee of $75.00 due to Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa’s resources committed to the scheduled treatment time.
• If you need additional treatments for optimal results after you have completed the package, those additional treatments will also be discounted at 15%. “Pay-As-You-Go” treatments will be charged the regular full price per treatment.
• Any patient under the age of 18 must have parental consent and the parent MUST sign all consents, consultations and quotations.
• New Mexico sales tax applies to all services and products.
• Quotations for Laser Hair Removal are valid 30 days from the date of the consultation.
• Ageless Aesthetics MediSpa has many certified laser technicians that are registered nurses. Their schedules vary depending on who is assigned to the laser room, therefore, your laser hair treatment may be performed by a different laser technician. Laser settings are charted in the patient's chart for consistency in treatment levels.
